On 10 August 2025, the Government of Bangladesh promulgated the Code of Criminal Procedure (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, marking one of the most demanding reforms since the original Code was enacted in 1898.
This amendment introduces changes to the legal framework governing arrest, detention, bail, investigation, and trial procedures. It represents a bold step toward aligning Bangladesh’s criminal justice system with modern principles of transparency, accountability, due process, and the protection of individual rights.
